The chaos of illegal addition of slimming health products, such as the launch of the surface enhancement Raman rapid detection program by Oceanhood

Launch:2022-06-28

In today's era of thin beauty, for fat people who can't adhere to exercise and reasonable diet, weight loss health products have undoubtedly become the best shortcut to quick weight loss. However, the phenomenon of illegal addition of slimming health products occurs from time to time, of which the banned drug sibutramine is particularly common. Therefore, Oceanhood launched a surface-enhanced Raman rapid detection program to help the society rectify the chaos of illegal addition of food safety.

Recently, the State Administration of Market Regulation and 13 other departments jointly held a press conference to report on the 100-day action to jointly rectify the chaos in the "health care" market. According to reports, since the launch of the "100-day action", a total of 21,152 cases have been filed nationwide, with a case value of 13.002 billion yuan, 9,505 cases have been closed, and 664 million yuan has been fined and confiscated. The State Administration for Market Regulation has exposed 100 typical cases five times, of which sibutramine is one of the typical cases.

Sibutramine is a central nervous system inhibitor that can suppress appetite and thus achieve weight loss, the use of sibutramine may increase serious cardiovascular risk, the risk of weight loss is greater than the benefits. As early as October 2010, the former State Food and Drug Administration announced that the domestic production, sale and use of sibutramine preparations and APIs, revoked its approval documents, and the drugs that have been marketed and sold are recalled and destroyed by the production enterprises.

Molecular structure of sibutramine

Regarding the detection of sibutramine in health food, there are no national standards and industry standards that are currently being implemented, but the State Food and Drug Administration issued two supplementary test methods such as "Determination of Sibutramine and Other Compounds in Food" and "Detection of 75 Illegally Added Chemical Drugs in Health Food" in February and November 2017, respectively. Both supplementary test methods are determined by high performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. There are excellent detection limits, and the experimental cost is high, the detection time takes several hours. It is difficult to use for rapid detection and large-scale sampling activities.

In view of the deficiencies in the supplementary test method and the advantages of effective detection of sibutramine in combination with surface enhancement Raman, such as a rapid test method for sibutramine in slimming products has been developed. The method is simple to operate; the detection time is short; the initial screening only takes 5 minutes;the detection and report output is completed within 10 minutes, and the detection limit is much lower than the effective addition of sibutramine in the weight loss products on the market, which meets the testing of illegal drugs in slimming products.

Experimental methods

Slimming tea undergoes solid standardization, and SERS Raman spectroscopy is detected after pretreatment:

This protocol requires inspection with detection tools such as portable Raman spectrometer Oceanhood SEED3000 and surface enhancement reagent. Portable Raman spectrometer SEED3000 is suitable for industry online monitoring, food safety, customs item verification, food and drug ring detection, chemical logistics supervision, jewelry identification, cancer detection, nanomaterials, drug safety; surface enhancement reagent is suitable for the detection of trace targets in food and drugs.

In addition to the illegal addition of slimming health care products, Oceanhood has also developed a rapid detection program for hundreds of commonly used subjects, including pesticide residues and veterinary drug residues, and is committed to analysis and research, service and sharing, to escort the health food safety industry.
